Northern New England stays alive

Bensenville, Illinois– Northern New England had no trouble with the Kentucky-West Virgina squad as the ran away with the 7-1 victory Saturday afternoon.

Ridge Garbutt of Brewster Academy scored 49 seconds into the contest to give Northern New England the 1-0 lead. His teammate at Brewster Stefan Lutzenkirchen got the lone assist.

Kentucky-West Virginia got on the scoreboard when Conor Matsen scored with 4:39 to play in the opening frame. Giovanni Catalano got the only assist.

Northern New England had six straight powerplay goals to pull away from the opposition.

Cody Sharib of New Hampton made it 2-1 at the 4:04 mark of the second with an assist going to Falmouth’s Mike Chase and Kyle Williams of North Yarmouth Academy.

Just over three minutes later, Guillaume Cyr of Brewster made it 3-1 with assists coming from NYA teammates Christoffer Linder and Williams.

46 seconds into the third, Bridgton’s Thomas Paine notched the fourth goal with the lone assist coming from Linder. At the 3:20 mark of the final frame, Hebron’s Chad Goodwin lit the lamp. Assists went to Chase and Greely’s Kevin Hart.

26 seconds later, Jacob Rutt of Scarborough added to his team’s total. Brewster teammates Cyr and Garbutt set the goal up.

With 10:50 to play, Goodwin got his second of the game with Kyle Williams getting his third assist of the contest.

Brian Fleming of Kents Hill made six saves on seven shots. Patrick Dunn stopped all three shots he faced.

Bryan Blawut turned aside 23 shots of the 24 he saw in the Kentucky-West Virgina net. Aaron Tenfelde stopped 28 of the 34 pucks he faced.
