Former Maine standout to Germany?

A Finnish newspaper is reporting former St. Dom’s and Maine standout, Derek Damon is looking to play in Germany for the 2009-2010 season. After spending two seasons in the ECHL; he signed with Ässät of the Finnish Sm-Liiga, the top league in Finland this past season.

He notched 13 goals and 18 assists in 55 games with Ässät which was third on his team.

He spent the 2006-2007 and 2007-2008 seasons with the Florida Everglades of the ECHL. He had 45 goals and 78 assists in 107 games. The Lowell Lock Monsters give him a tryout during the 2005-2006 season after the Black Bear season ended. Damon appeared in three games He also saw time with the Albany River Rats in the 2007-2008 season where he saw 15 games. His five career points (2 goals and 3 assists) in the AHL came in a River Rats sweater.

The Bangor native played his college hockey in his backyard at the University of Maine from 2002-2006. He lit the lamp 51 times and added 60 assists in 159 games with the Black Bears. He was a four-year lettermen with Maine.
