Junior Notebook

The QMJHL released its first edition of their Central Scouting list on Wednesday for the upcoming midget draft in June. Darcy Ashley, a 2011 Maine recruit, is ranked in the second round. The 15-year-old had 25 goals and 35 assists in 35 games for the Cornwall Superior Thunder. In the playoffs, he has two goals and three assists in four games.

Connor Anthoine of the Portland Junior Pirates is one of the few locals named to the list. They don’t rank American players but he will have to go in the top five rounds because he will be 16.

Evan Schultz who was a part of the Junior Pirates MJHL squad was also named to the list. He had 28 goals and 33 assists in 42 contests. His 61 points was put him in fifth in points in the MET North Division.

“Brian Billett was named to the list for the second year in row. Even though the New Hampshire Junior Monarchs lost the EJHL finals, Billett backstopped the Monarchs in the 3-2 victory over the New Jersey Hitmen to win the Tier III Junior A National Championship in Marlborough, Massachusetts on Wednesday night.

Tyler Piercy of North Yarmouth Academy who hails from New Brunswick is ranked as player that could go possibly in rounds 6-8.

McNeely to the NTDP

Matt McNeely appears to be one of the two goalies to be named to the National Team Development Program’s Under-17 squad for the 2009-2010 season. The camp was held this past weekend

Festival Notes

Maine hosted the New England Festivals this past weekend. Kennebunk’s Kevin Airoldi was second in scoring in the 1992 age group. He had a goal and four assists in three games. Brennan Shaw a 1992 born of Presque Isle had two goals and two assists in three games. The two goaltenders in the 1992 age bracket Ethan Gray of Yarmouth had a 3.33 goals against average and Derek Duff of John Bapt’s had a 4.67 goals against average.

In the 1993 age bracket, Evan Schultz led the way with 6 goals and 4 assists in four games. Brian Hart of Greely had four goals and two assists on the weekend. Connor Anthoine had three goals and two assists. CJ Maksut of Thornton Academy and Garrett Van Wie of Hebron Academy each had two goals and two assists. Colte Steele of North Yarmouth had a goal and two assists.

Jameson Finch of the Portland Junior Pirates was stellar in net in the 1993 age group. He had a gaa of 1. Alex Ahrikenchikh of York High School had a goals-against-average of 3.59. Christopher Mcintire had a goals against average of 5.00.
