Drummondville had no mercy

Drummondville, QC– Lewiston kept it close, in the first period. Then the Drummondville Voltigeurs decided they were done playing around. When the clocked showed double zeros, it was 12-3 Drummondville.

Dany Masse and Mike Hoffman each recorded a hat trick, Hoffman ended up with four goals. Drummondville was 6 for 13 on the man advantage. Lewiston was 3 for 6 on the powerplay.

Lewiston came out on all cylinders. Maxime Gratchev struck first when he found the back of the cage 1:49 into the contest. Danick Paquette and Billy Lacasse assisted on the powerplay tally. Mike Hoffman was in the box.

Eric Gelinas would take a tripping call at the 5:42 mark. Eight seconds later, Dany Masse scored on the second effort after Adrien Lemay couldn’t cover up the puck. Assists went to Yannick Riendeau and Christopher DiDomenico.

With 6:06 to play in the opening frame, Riendeau put home a Marc-Antoine Desnoyers shot home. Masse got the secondary assist.

The Voltigeurs powerplay continued to light the lamp. 2:29 in the middle frame, Masse got his second of the contest. Riendeau picked up his second assist and Dmitry Kulikov getting the secondary assist.

The Maineiacs looked to get back within one when they appeared to have a goal. The officials quickly waived it off as they called goaltender interference.

Drummondville would make it 4-1 at the 9:08 mark when Samson Mahbod lit the lamp. Masse and Philippe Lefebvre set the goal up. With 6:32 to play in the second stanza, Riendeau picked up his second of the night. Masse and Kulikov helped on the goal. Both tallies were on the powerplay.

Danick Paquette had a period. He got Lewiston’s second marker with 5:19 to play. Gratchev and Patrick Cusack got the powerplay assists. Paquette also dropped the gloves with Charles Landry at the 3:47 mark and won with a take down. That set the physical tone of the period. He was also called for roughing after he threw a punch to players on Drummondville’s bench.

Mike Hoffman got an even strength goal 16 seconds after Paquette’s marker. Andrew Randazzo and Christopher DiDomenico got their first assists of the game.

Drummondville continued to put salt into the wound. Lefebvre got his first of the game as he put home a rebound from the slot. Benoît Lévesque and Kulikov set the goal up. 54 seconds later, Hoffman got his second of the contest on the powerplay. Kulikov and DiDomenico set the marker up.

At the 5:57 mark, Hoffman got the hat trick on the man advantage. Riendeau and Kulikov set the tally up. He got his fourth of the night with 11:54 to play. DiDomenico got the lone assist.

Alexander Beaton got a powerplay tally at the 19:16 mark with Paquette and Samuel Finn getting the assists.

Masse would complete his hat trick 38 seconds after Beaton lit the lamp. Assists went to Marco Cousineau and Gabriel Dumont set the goal. The scoring came to an end as Landry blasted one home. The helpers went to Marc-Olivier Vachon and Andrew Randazzo with 2:08 to play.

Adrien Lemay played all sixty minutes and made 46 saves. Marco Cousineau turned aside 22 shots.

Game two is Saturday at 7:00.
