Duffy joins the Rochester Americans

Rochester, NY — The Rochester Americans of the AHL have signed Windham, Maine native and former UMaine Black Bear Matt Duffy to an Amateur Tryout contract.

Duffy was a fourth round selection of the Florida Panthers in the 2005 Draft.

He spent the last four seasons at Maine. In his senior season, he saw career highs in goals, assists, points and penalty minutes. In 39 games, he scored seven goals, 10 assists for 17 points with 64 penalty minutes.

He joins former Black Bear teammate, Andrew Sweetland, in the Panthers organization. Sweetland was recently sent down to Florida Everblades of the ECHL. He’s scored a goal and two assists in 48 games with the Americans. With the Everblades, he has six goals and nine assists in 16 games.

Nyquist named to the Hockey East’s All Rookie Team

The 19 year-old freshman was the only Maine representative named to the All-Rookie Team. Boston University led the way with two players on the list.
