Higgins booted off the NTDP

I got confirmation this afternoon that Stuart Higgins a 2010 Maine recruit, was one of two players kicked off the National Team Development Program.

“Will Yanakeff and Stuart Higgins are no longer part of USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program due to violation of team rules,” said David Fischer the Director of Media and Public Relations for USA Hockey in an E-Mail.

According to an USHR (subscription based website) article, the two were involved in a drinking party.

Due to NCAA regulations, Tim Whitehead can’t comment on a recruit until he signs a National Letter of Intent.

Higgins is a 5’7 forward who is committed to the University of Maine for the 2010-2011 season. He had 9 goals and 12 assists in 49 games with the Under 17 team.

Yanakeff is a goaltender who’s committed to Michigan State for the 2010-2011 season.

There will be a goaltender position open next season on the Under-18 team. Brian Billett is eligible for the Under-18 team next season.

It looked promising this time last year for Maine’s 2010 recruiting class. They looked to have the best recruiting class but with the losses of Austin Watson to the Windsor Spitfires of the OHL and Kevin Gagne to Saint John Sea Dogs of the QMJHL.

As of today, Higgins,  Kyle Beattie, and Carlos Amestoy make up the 2010 recruiting class.

Higgins could play in the USHL next season.
