Maine falls to Lowell

Lowell, Mass– With a playoff spot secured, Maine looked to gain some momentum for the playoff push. UMass-Lowell had something to say as they defeated the Black Bears 5-3 at Tsongas Arena Friday night.

Michael Scheu broke the ice at the 3:33 mark of the first. Assists went to Nick Schaus and Ryan Blair. It was a poweplay marker. Tanner House responded with his eighth of the season five minutes later. Gustav Nyquist got the lone assist.

Brian Flynn notched his 12 of the season on the man advantage, 10:44 into the game. Simon Danis-Pepin and Will O’Neil helped out on the goal. The Riverhawks would respond with a goal from Patrick Cey with 7:46 remaining. Kory Falite and Ryan Blair also recorded a point on the goal.

Tanner House got his second of the contest eleven seconds later. Flynn and Nyquist got their second points of the night.

UMass-Lowell would get two powerplay goals in a 1:21 span. At the 13:20 mark, Maury Edwards got his ninth of the year. The helpers went to Barry Goers and Kory Falite. Then Scott Campbell got his eleventh with Nick Schaus and Michael Budd tallying the assists.

Late in the second, Paul Worthington got his fifth on the powerplay with 1:50 to play. Campbell and Schaus set the tally up.

Scott Darling made 26 saves in his eleventh loss of his freshman campaign. Nevin Hamilton made 32 saves in his ninth victory of the year.

The teams go back at it Saturday night at 7pm in Lowell to close the regular season.

Saturday afternoon at 12:30, a live blog begins for the Class B State Championship game between the Presque Isle Wildcats and the Greely Rangers. At 5pm the live blog for the Class A State title between the St. Dom’s Saints and the Waterville Panthers begins.
