Kristen Gresko receives ECAC East postseason recognition
- Updated: March 6, 2009
Gorham, ME — Freshman goaltender Kristen Gresko (Phoenix, Ariz.) is the University of Southern Maine women’s ice hockey team’s lone recipient of Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Women’s East postseason honors that were released Thursday afternoon.
ECAC commissioner Rudy Keeling announced that Gresko had received a spot on the All-ECAC East honorable mention squad following voting by the league’s coaches. She is the first USM player to earn a spot on one of the three all-conference teams since Katie Quartuccio was named to the honorable mention team in 2006-07.
Gresko has played in 19 games to date, making 18 starts. She has compiled a 2.28 goals against average with a .910 save percentage and a 9-8-2 record. She also has three shutouts, all coming since February 6 (seven games).
During the regular season, she was named Goalie of the Week twice (February 10 and 17), and to the weekly honor roll on one occasion (February 3). Over her last eight starts since January 31, Gresko has a 5-2-1 record with a 1.36 goals against average and a .949 save percentage.
The rookie goalie helped Southern Maine post its first winning record since the 2003-2004 season with a 14-8-4 overall record heading into Saturday night’s (7:00 p.m.) semifinal playoff game against Norwich University, and a 12-5-2 mark in regular season league play.
