Bowdoin’s Lozzi named NESCAC Rookie of the Year

Brunswick, ME — Bowdoin College first-year Dominique Lozzi (Reading, Mass.) has been named as the New England Small College Athletic Conference’s Women’s Hockey Rookie of the Year in post-season awards handed out on Thursday. Lozzi was sensational for the Polar Bears in 2008-09, leading the team with 14 goals and six assists.
Lozzi generated 14 goals and six assists for a team-high 20 points as she accounted for the game-winning goal in six of the Polar Bears’ 11 victories this season (1st NESCAC). Her six game-winners are the third-most in a single-season in Bowdoin history.
The Reading High School graduate is the third Polar Bear to receive NESCAC Rookie of the Year designation. Meghan Gillis ’07 captured the award in 2003-04 while Kristen Cameron ’08 earned the honor in 2004-05.
After starting the campaign 3-10-1, Bowdoin rolled off an eight-game win streak and finished the season with an overall mark of 11-11-1 to place fifth in the conference.
