Lewiston holds on

Lewiston, ME– Two goals were all that was needed for the Blue Devils and Cam Poussard did the rest. He made 23 saves in the victory.

“The adrenaline just kick in (the third),” Cam Poussard said. He was peppered with shots and he made two big saves in the period.

“If you have a good goaltender and defense, you have a good chance to win every game,” says Lewiston’s Head Coach Jamie Belleau.

“I got the stick on it,” says Poussard. “After that I don’t know where it ended up,” talking about the Jacob Chapman wrap around opportunity.

Lewiston would get the ice breaker at the 8:46 mark of the first period. Sam Cloutier blasted one through Eric White’s five hole. Zac Racine got the only helper.

Minutes later Ryan Lemelin would find the top shelf. Robbie Leeman got the lone assist on the tally at the 12:23 mark.

“You can’t complain about that one,” says Brewer Head Coach Bill Schwarz.

Brewer would get the only marker in the second frame when Ryan Nadeau put home Andy Bush’s shot that deflected off the glass. The tally came at the 9:23 mark of the second.

“They only got one goal,” said Belleau, talking about Dylan Fitzpatrick, Ryan Nadeau, and Nick Risser. Three of the states top leading scorers.

“After that first goal I was nervous,” said Poussard. “You guys get that one goal back, we will be fine.”

They didn’t get the goal back but the Witches put tons of pressure in the third.

“We didn’t finish,” says Schwarz.

The game took a turn for the worst when a brawl erupted with eight seconds left. Devon McClellan got a game disqualification. Robbie Leeman got a minor and a ten minute misconduct.

Dylan Nadeau, Matt Helfran, and Andy Bush also got a minor and a ten minute misconduct.

“It’s disappointing to me because it was in our zone after the whistle,” says Belleau. “Our guy is the guy to get a DQ (disqualification), that’s extremely unfortunate.”

Eric White made 14 saves in the losing effort.
