Pirates sign Briggs to man the pipes

Portland, ME – Yes, the sun rose in Portland in this morning so in fact we know the world is not crashing around the Portland Pirates and not everything seems to be as disastrous as it looked yesterday at the Civic Center.

The Pirates took to the ice this morning for practice and it looked like a team getting ready for tonight’s game in Springfield.

The Pirates goaltending situation is even improving as Portland signed Kellen Briggs from the Ontario Reign of the ECHL to a PTO.

Briggs, 25, played 12 games with the Reign this season, going 7-5-0 with a 2.43GAA and a .927 save percentage.

Briggs spent four seasons with the Minnesota Golden Gophers where he holds the school records for wins (84) and shutouts (11).

In another surprise for the Pirates, Tim Kennedy skated today and pending word with the training staff, he could be a game time decision for tonight’s game. Certainly a better outlook than yesterday when Kennedy needed the assistance of a cane to walk.
