Santangelo named NESCAC Women’s player of the week

Brunswick, ME – Bowdoin College first-year goaltender Sage Santangelo (Laporte, Colo.) has been named the New England Small College Athletic Conference Women’s Ice Hockey Player of the Week. Santangelo has been
red-hot in goal for the Polar Bears, who have won a season-high six-straight games and stand at 9-10-1 overall this season.

Santangelo posted a .949 save percentage and a 1.00 goals against average during a 3-0-0 week for the Polar Bears. Tuesday evening against Colby, Santangelo made 13 saves in a 4-1 victory. At Trinity on Friday, Santangelo turned aside 20 shots in a 4-2 win. She closed out the week with a 3-0 shutout of the Bantams on Saturday, making 23 saves.

Santangelo has been solid in the final month of the season, holding a 1.66 goals against average and a .926 save percentage as Bowdoin’s six-game win streak is the longest for the program since January of 2006.

The Polar Bears will close out their regular season this weekend with a pair of non-conference games against Potsdam State. Bowdoin still has a chance to garner a home NESCAC quarterfinal game and pairings will be announced on Saturday, February 21.
