Bowdoin rolls over Wesleyan

Brunswick, ME – The Bowdoin College men’s ice hockey team scored three times in the second period to take a 5-3 win over Wesleyan University on Friday evening at Sidney J. Watson Arena. The Polar Bears (10-9-2) remain unbeaten at Watson Arena this season (3-0-1) while the Cardinals fall to 3-16-1 overall this year.

The Cardinals were the first to score in Friday evening’s affair, as J.J. Evans took a feed in the right slot and rifled a shot top-shelf just 16 seconds into the contest to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. The Polar Bears settled in after the initial goal, and responded seven minutes later as a Mike Corbelle pass from the wing was redirected into the cage by Ryan Blossom to deadlock the contest at 7:53.

Wesleyan regained the lead early in the second frame on the powerplay when Dallas Bossort ripped a shot from the point at 5:26. The rest of the frame was all Polar Bears, however, as Bowdoin tallied three times in 7:18 to garner the lead for good. Jordan Lalor scored on a one-timer at 9:40 to tie the score before Graham Sisson banged home a puck in front at 16:01. Just moments later, Ryan Blossom collected a Cardinal turnover in the neutral zone and scored on a breakaway back-hander at 16:58 to push the lead to 4-2 after two periods.

Geoff Mucha was able to trim the lead to a single goal, 4-3, with 9:38 remaining when Geoff Mucha buried a chance from between the circles. But Bowdoin’s Chris Rossi held strong, stopping seven third-period chances and Brendan Reich iced the victory for the hosts with an empty-netter at 19:33. Rossi finished with 23 stops in all while Mike Palladino collected 20 stops for the Cardinals in defeat. Blossom had an assist in addition to his two goals for Bowdoin while Sisson collected a pair of helpers.
