Pirates Morning Report — 02/13/09

Portland, ME – The Pirates back on the ice for the first time since Tuesday night, were shaking off the rust before tonight’s game against Worcester.

In a bit of a surprise, Jhonas Enroth is getting a break tonight as John DeCaro will be getting the start tonight for the Pirates as they prepare for a critical weekend against divisional opponents.

Paul Baier, Mike Weber and Colin Murphy were all on the ice this morning.

Weber, back from Buffalo, will be in the lineup tonight, giving the Pirates six healthy defensemen for the first time since Saturday when they lost Cliff Loya to a broken leg.

Loya, he underwent surgery in Hershey, PA to repair the break in his leg and will be out for two months, minimum. Baier took part in full practice today, but Pirates’ head coach Kevin Dineen said Baier won’t play tonight and will be day-to-day over the weekend.

Colin Murphy is not quite ready for action and he most likely will sit out this weekend.

In more good news for the blueline, Mike Funk began skating on his own today and Dineen said he’s now week-to-week. Considering the hit he took and the fact he was taken off the ice on a stretcher, that’s good news.
