Conboy sits for actions against Gerbe

Portland, ME – Albany’s Tim Conboy will have a few games to sit and think about his action’s in Buffalo on Tuesday.

The AHL announced today that Conboy was suspended four games for his actions against the Pirates at HSBC Arena.

More specifically, Conboy was suspended for his mugging of Pirates’ forward Nathan Gerbe at the 19:35 mark of the first period.

Gerbe and Rats’ forward Mike Angelidis tussled behind the River Rats’ net before Gerbe took Angelidis down to the ice. After both teams were separated, they skated back to their respective benches were Gerbe was pushed and grabbed toward the River Rats bench and suckered punch by several players from their bench.

While this was ongoing, Conboy jumped Gerbe from behind and pulled him from the pile, pummeling him to the ice with several punches before the linesmen jumped in.

In a bit of a surprise, Gerbe was given a game misconduct by referee Jamie Koharski for his actions in the scrum, which left many in the pressbox scratching their heads considering he was the beaten instead of the beater.

After the game, the incident didn’t faze Gerbe, although he didn’t play the full game, because he was recalled by the Sabres after the game and played for Buffalo last night against the Ottawa Senators.
