Despite Lemay’s efforts; Lewiston loses in OT

Drummondville, QC- Adrian Lemay had his best game in a Lewiston Maineiacs’ sweater but it didn’t lead to a Lewiston victory. The goaltender made 66 saves in the 3-2 overtime loss to the Drummondville Voltigeurs on Friday night. He was rewarded with the second star of the game.

Yannick Riendeau would be rewarded with a penalty shot 55 seconds into the extra frame when the referee concluded that Lewiston intentionally knocked the net off the moorings. The QMJHL leading scorer notched his 41st of the season and second of the night.

Mike Hoffman would also score for the Voltigeurs. Antoine Tardif’s workload was nothing compared to Lemay’s as he turned away 16 shots.

Billy Lacasse and Steeven Jacques were the goal scorers for the Maineiacs.

Billy Lacasse would get the Maineiacs on the board first with 6:30 remaining in the first. It was an unassisted shorthanded tally with captain Danick Paquette in the box. Lemay turned away all fourteen shots he face.

Mike Hoffman would tie the game up on the powerplay with his 38th of the season at the 1:10 mark. Yannick Riendeau and Dmitry Kulikov set the goal up. Adrian Lemay would make 22 saves in the second frame.

In the third, Steeven Jacques was rewarded with a penalty shot at the 8:03 mark. He was able to beat Tardif for his sixth goal of the season.

Riendeau would tie the contest up with 9:41 left in regulation. Andrew Randazzo and Dany Massé set the goal up. Lemay turn aside 24 shots.

Drummondville was relentless in the extra frames as they were able to get seven shots off in 55 seconds of the overtime frame.

The two same teams go at it again at the Marcel Dionne Centre Saturday night at 7pm.

Notes: The QMJHL held a Board of Governors meeting Friday afternoon. On the agenda was the possible move of the Maineiacs to Boisbriand, Quebec. The QMJHL ruled that Lewiston couldn’t move to Boisbriand without permission of the Montreal Junior.

Boisbriand is within Montreal’s territorial rights.
