Corbelle nets OT winner for Bowdoin

Clinton, NY — Mike Corbelle scored twice, including the game-winning goal in overtime, to lead the Bowdoin College men’s ice hockey team to a 3-2 victory at Hamilton on Friday night. The Polar Bears improve to 9-8-2 (6-6-2 NESCAC) with the victory.

Corbelle’s blast from above the left circle knocked the water bottle off the top of the Hamilton goal. Bowdoin dominated the extra session with eight total shots to one for Hamilton. Corbelle leads the Polar Bears with nine goals. He finished the evening with two goals and one assist. Colin MacCormack chipped in one goal and one assist. Chris Rossi made 32 saves.

The Continentals (7-11-1 overall, 6-8-0 NESCAC) grabbed a 1-0 lead just 29 seconds into the first period when Jerome Wallace stole the puck in Bowdoin’s end and scored his fourth goal this season. MacCormack tied the score with his seventh goal with eight seconds left in the period while the Polar Bears (9-8-2, 6-6-2) were enjoying a 5-on-3 power play.

Bowdoin, which ended up 2-for-6 with the extra skater, took the lead on Corbelle’s first goal of the night at 1:03 of the second period. The goal was also on a power play.

Hamilton’s Chris Lorenc tied the score at 2-2 with his 13th goal at 5:54 of the third period. Lorenc leads the team with those 13 goals and in points with 23. Mark Donovan made 33 saves for the Continentals. The Polar Bears held a 36-34 edge in shots and killed all six Hamilton power-play opportunities, including four in the first period.
