Weber’s return means a trip to Buffalo
- Updated: February 1, 2009
Portland, ME – It might be Super Bowl Sunday, but for Pittsburgh native Mike Weber, he’ll have to watch it at a later date.
The Buffalo Sabres recalled the sophomore defenseman from Portland today because Jaroslav Spacek is expected to be out a while with a hip injury that he suffered Saturday night in Phoenix.
Weber, 21, has played 37 games with the Pirates this season, scoring six points with a plus-9 rating, which leads all Pirates defensemen.
Weber missed nine games after having surgery to his right knee to clear up some nagging inflammation.
He also leads the AHL in minor penalties with 38 minors.
This means the Pirates are back to five defensemen with Mike Kostka being the veteran defenseman in the lineup.
