Even strength play will be the key to this game. Both teams have a strong penalty kill. UMass’ Scott Crowder, father is former Pirates and Maine assistant coach, Bruce Crowder.
5:30pm: After two periods, it’s a 1-1 game. Chase Langeraap tied the game with 1:28 remaining on the powerplay. It was the Minutemen’s second powerplay in a row.
Maine had a few chances. A good chance came with 5:30 remaining when they crashed the net. The puck was sitting in the crease the second chance was stopped.
There was some hitting after the whistle at the end of the period. Tanner Houseand Alex Berry will start the third in the sin bin.
4:00pm:Maine is going with Dave Wilson and UMass is going with Paul Dainton. See you after the first intermission.
4:42pm:After one period it’s 1-0 Maine. I will eat my words my words as Maine’s goal came on the powerplay at the 44 second mark. House won the faceoff back to Will O’Neil who set the one timer up to Matt Duffy who lit the lamp.
UMass would control most of the play. The shots were 7-6 in favor of UMass. Maine had trouble getting the puck into the zone and keeping it in the zone.
6:16pm Game just ended, Jef Dimen’s blast with 26 seconds left was the difference maker. Final shot total is 29-21 in Maine’s favor.
