Paquette’s two goal effort not enough

Montreal, QC– It’s just a matter of time. For the tenth straight contest, the Lewiston Maineiacs have been involved in either a one or two goal game. The 4-2 loss to the Montreal Juniors brings their record to 1-9 in those games.

Danick Paquette tallied both goals for the Lewiston Maineiacs. Eric Gelinas and Maxime Gratchev had two assists. Peter Delmas made 33 saves in the losing effort.

The Juniors got goals from four different goal scorers. Nick Layton, Dmitri Kostromitin, Matt Filler, and Pier-Antoine Dion all scored. Jake Allen made 35 saves in the victory.

The Montreal Juniors would get a powerplay goal from Dmitri Kostromitin at the 8:18 mark. The assists went to Pat O’Keefe and Toni Ritter. Steeven Jacques was in the box. Danick Paquette would drop the gloves with Chris Thorne with 9:08 remaining.

Montreal would add two more in the second stanza. Matt Fillier would get his tenth of the season 8:39 into the period. Matthew Brenton and Guillaume Asselin set the goal up. With 3:54 left in the period, Pier-Antoine Dion got his 11th of the season. Guillaume Asselin got the lone assist.

Danick Paquette would get his 19th of the season at the 4:26 mark. It was a 5 on 3 powerplay goal with Guillaume Asselin and Matt Filler in the sin bin. Paquette would get Lewiston within one with 4:37 remaining. It was an even strength goal.

It was a physical period with Etienne Brodeur and Pat O’Keefe dropping the mitts. Marc Bourgeois and Alex Wall also squared off in the period. The Juniors would add an empty netter when Nick Layton added his 17th of the season. The goal came with seven seconds left with Filler getting the lone helper.

The Maineiacs end the three games in three days back in Shawinigan. Faceoff is at 4pm.
