Portland, ME – The first of what will hopefully be a couple players were named to the AHL All-Star Classic today as Pirates’ forward Mark Mancari was named to the AHL Canadian All-Star team.

Mancari, 24, leads the Pirates in scoring with 36 points (14g, 22a) and a plus-12 rating in 28 games.

The London, ONT native spent seven games with the Buffalo Sabres after being recalled on Nov. 21 where in only his second game, he scored his first NHL goal with the big club.

Mancari was part of the Canadian AHL All-Star team last season as a member of the Rochester Americans, Buffalo’s former AHL affiliate, where he set a new AHL record for the hardest shot at 102.8mph.

The AHL will release its roster for the Planet USA roster on Wednesday where it’s possible – more than likely – Nathan Gerbe and Tim Kennedy will be named to the roster.
