7:42pm-1st Period: The U-18 got off to a strong start to the game. Kevin Lynch got the scoring started at the 2:09 mark. Jerry D’Amigo got the lone assist. After a David Valek penalty, Tanner House tied the game for Maine. Gustav Nyquist and Bryan Flynn got the helpers.

Maine controlled the rest of the period. USA lost their best player, Jeremy Morin went to the locker room with three minutes left. He can stick handle. He could be the first or second American to be drafted in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.

The Black Bears would head to the locker room with a 2-1 lead when Spencer Abbott clanked the cross bar with 2:45 left. Theo Andersson and Kyle Solomon got the assists.

8:22pm-2nd Period: Jeremy Morin didn’t return to the ice for the second period. It was a quick period with Maine getting two more goals. Brandon Maxwell had a tough period in net for the Under-18 Team. He committed early when Gustav Nyquist went top shelf to make it 4-1 at the 1:46 mark. With 1:48 remaining, he triedto clear the zone but put it on Nick Payson’s stick. Payson fired it back him and it trickled past Maxwell to give the Black Bears the 5-1 lead going into the third. Maxwell made a couple of mistakes in the period.

You can see Maine has the physical edge in the game. Team USA has skill. I have been impressed how discipline they are. So far the have only three penalties.

8:27pm-I failed to mention Bryan Flynn’s goal that made it 4-1. Gustav Nyquist and Matt Duffy got the helpers.

8:56-3rd Period: Another strong start to the period for Team USA, A.J. Treais would make it 5-2 at the 42 second mark. Chris McCarthy set the goal up. Brandon Maxwell almost let another soft goal in but he recovered in time.

A.J. Treais would score a beauty when he found room between Dave Wilson’s left shoulder and the top shelf. Kevin Swallow made it 6-3 for the Black bears. Spencer Abbott got his second of the game with 3:49 remaining.

Josh Seeley would enter the game as Maine’s goaltender with about three minutes remaining. This is his first action of the season. A.J. Treais almost had a hat trick when he faked ou Seeley but rang the pos.
