Sabres give Kennedy a late Christmas gift

Portland, ME – It’s a dream come true for Pirates’ forward and Buffalo native Tim Kennedy as he will suit up for his hometown team when the Sabres take on the New York Islanders at HSBC Arena on Saturday.

Kennedy, 22, was recalled this morning by the Sabres after Thomas Vanek suffered an injury during Buffalo’s 3-2 loss to the Washington Capitals. Kennedy has played in all 29 games for the Pirates this season, scoring 27 points (5g, 22a) and was plus/minus-0. He’s ranked second in the league among all rookies and 12th in the AHL in assists.

As a result of the call up, the Pirates were left two forward short on the roster, but head coach Kevin Dineen has signed Chase Trull from the Mississippi Sea Wolves of the ECHL. In 24 games, he’s scored three goals, seven assists for 10 points. He played four games with the Philadelphia Phantoms this season, going scoreless.

Trull will meet the team prior to departing for tonight’s game in Manchester.

Jhonas Enroth will get his fourth straight start tonight, as Dennis is still not 100%. It also looks like Dineen is trying put an offensive line together has he had Zagrapan centering a line with Mancari and Darche.
