Maine picks up another recruit

Earlier this week, the Maine Black Bears picked up Nick Pryor for next season. On Wednesday they got a verbal commitment from forward Matt Mangene of the New Hampshire Junior Monarchs for the 2009 season. The 19-year-old Manorville, NY native has nine goals and 11 assists in 22 games which is third on the team.

“I cannot wait to put on the Black Bear jersey and play for such a historic and successful program”, stated Mangene in the EJHL press release.

He becomes the third Monarch player to commit the Maine Black Bears. Adam Shemansky is second on the New Hampshire Monarchs in terms of points. He has 5 goals and 19 assists in 17 contests. Kelen Corkum, the son of Maine’s Associate Head Coach, Bob Corkum has nine goals and four assists in 13 games. Both will dawn the Black Bear sweater next season.

Maine has six other incoming freshmen for the 2009 season. Mark Anthoine, a Lewiston native, has five goals and eight assists in 25 games with the Chicago Steel. He recently had a two goals and an assist against the Indiana Ice. Derek Arnold of the Waterloo Blackhawks has 12 goals and 3 assists in 20 games. Johnnie Searfoss, the Texas native, has five goals and seven assists in 26 matches with the Fargo Force. Nick Pryor of the Des Moines has five goals and ten assists in 21 contests.

Out in the Ontario Junior Hockey League, Joey Diamond has 31 goals and 30 assists in 32 games. Defenseman Patrick McEachen of the Stouffville Spirit has tallied four goals and twenty assists in 34 games. 2010 recruit, Carlos Amestoy, has seven goals and nine assists in 27 games.

Stuart Higgins, another 2010 recruit, has five goals and four assists in 23 games with the National Team Development Program Under-17 team. Darcy Ashley of the Cornwall Superior Sanitation Thunder of the New Brunswick-Prince Edward Island Major Midget Hockey League has 12 goals and 19 assists in 17 games.
