Pirates infirmary continues to grow

The Pirates were back on the ice hard at work today getting ready for a weekend series of games that may define the rest of their season. With a road game on Friday in Worcester before returning to the 4-C’s for the first time in almost three weeks with a pair of games against the P-Bruins and Sharks, the Pirates have to figure out a way to snap out of the goal scoring funk they find themselves in.

However, they had to do so without a couple of bodies Mike Funk and Mike Card are still out with concussion symptoms. Adam Dennis didn’t skate this morning, as Dineen wanted to be cautious with his goalie. Dineen said Dennis has been dealing with a few things and they just want to keep a close eye on the situation. Also missing was Aaron Slattengren who didn’t skate for the second straight day.

“(Slattengren) is going to be a little while,” said Dineen. “He got an upper-body injury.”

Dineen said that he was bringing somebody in later today, most likely Kyle Rank, who played for Portland earlier this season.

Jimmy Bonneau did skate briefly, but he’s still a couple weeks away from returning.

Practice, which only lasted for about an hour was spirited at times as Dineen wasn’t happy with team passing.

“I want them to live up to their potential and level of play,” he said. “Our passing has to be sharp.”

Besides missing Slattengren, the team kept the same line combinations as they spent the majority of the practice working on the power play and three-on-two breakouts.
