Union vs. Maine Part Deux

Post Game

A correction to start off, Spencer Abbott got credited with the first goal.

Both coaches and the Maine players were pretty impressed with Darling’s performance.

Tim Whitehead was pretty pleased with the special teams. He felt lucky winning a 5-1 game because Union outshot them 23-15. He was also glad that the referees didn’t eject anyone.

You can read the game story here.

3rd Period

Robby Dee tipped in a Jeff Dimmen shot at the 4:09 mark. Simon Danis-Pepin got an assist also. The game got rough around the five minute mark. Maine lost its concentration for a second and Mike Wakita blasted one past Darling.

Maine would answer right back with a goal from Nyquist.

Like I said, the game out of hand. Union was going after the players more than the puck. Both teams got their share of penalties in the period. At the end of the game, Robby Dee finished a check and everyone gathered around. The players paired up and punches were thrown.

2nd Period

The craziest thing that happened in the period was when a Maine player and an Union player got their helmets locked together. Not even a minute after, a Maine player got his stick stuck into an Union’s player’s skate.

Mike Banwell made a nice strong defensive play on a 2 on 1. He laid out to disrupt the play. Maine struggled to stay out of the penalty box. They killed off a 5 on 3 powerplay. They don’t panic when they are down two men.

Maine made it 3-0 when Lem Randall showed off his baseball skills he batted one in. It did go to review but the call stood. The goal came at the 19 minute mark.

1st Period

Maine got on the board after Will O’Neil was called for a penalty. Keif Orsini blasted one from the left circle and went five hole on Corey Milan..

There was long stretch with no whistles. If you still had any doubts with Scott Darlings as the goaltender, he came up big late in the period. The defense failed to clear the puck and he was all over the ice. Union rang one off the cross bar.

Main went on a powerplay and Gustav Nyquist found the back of the net with 1:16 left. Darlings performance energized the team and the fans.
