Gerbe goes to the show; Mancari sent down

Portland, ME – The fans have spoken and the Sabres have delivered as Nathan Gerbe was recalled by Buffalo last night.

Gerbe left after game in Springfield and was at Sabres practice this morning where he’ll be in the lineup tonight when the Sabres take on the Tampa Bay Lightning for his first NHL game.

Gerbe, 21, has played in 21 games with the Pirates this year, scoring 14 goals, 10 assists for 24 points and was a plus/minus-3.

The 5-6, 175-pound native from Oxford, MI was first among all AHL rookies in scoring, which was good enough for ninth in AHL scoring overall.

Because of the roster move made by the Sabres, Mark Mancari has been sent down to the Pirates – which at this time will be a trade off I think the Pirates are willing to accept.

Mancari was the AHL’s leading scorer before being recalled back on Nov. 21. In 14 games, he scored 25 points (11g, 14a) and was a plus/minus-15.

In seven games with the Sabres, he’s scored two points (1g, 1a) including his first NHL game.
