Oceanic sink Lewiston

Rimouski, QC– The story of the season so far for the Maineiacs has been the penalty kill. Penalties came back to bite the Maineiacs as they allowed four powerplay goals. The Oceanic defeated the Lewiston Maineiacs 5-2. Lewiston jumped to the 2-0 lead after the first period with goals from Max Gratchev and Denis Reul. Jordan Caron led Rimouski with two goals and two assists. Patrice Cormier and Philippe Cornet each had a goal and an assist.

Danick Paquette got a slashing call at the 2:46 mark into the game. Delmas made a save on Philippe Cornet on the powerplay. Delmas made another save as he stopped a Gleason Fournier shot. Guillaume Pelletier was hooked at the neutral zone but there no call and the fans let the referees have it.

Patrick Cusack got called for roughing after he threw a punch after the whistle. Billy Lacasse stole the puck and had a breakaway but was hauled down. He was rewarded a penalty shot. Maxim Gougeon made the stop on the penalty shot. Lewiston would capitalize when Max Gratchev stole the puck and came in alone on Gougeon and found a hole at the 15:27 mark.

The Maineiacs would go on the man advantage when Alexandre S. Brunet went to the sin bin at the 16:53 mark. Denis Reul would go up 2-0 when Denis Reul snapped one past Gougeon from the slot. It was a powerplay tally with 1:27 remaining. Billy Lacasse and Gratchev got the helpers.

Danick Paquette would go to the sin bin just 11 seconds into the second. Jordan Caron would cut Lewiston’s lead in half when he stuffed one home at the 26 mark. Patrice Cormier and Alexandre Neron grabbed the assists. Michael Chaput would go to the sin at the 61 second mark. He took Sébastien Piché with him.

Lewiston would go on the powerplay as Cormier went to the sin. Gratchev had another great chance on the powerplay. Michael Ward received a four minute penalty for hooking call. Jordan Caron would tie the game on the man advantage with 10:33 remaining. Philippe Cornet and Emmanuel Bourdeau set the goal up.

Maxime Gratchev got called for a high sticking with 6:38 left in the stanza. Just seconds in the powerplay, Patrice Cormier found the back of the net 12 seconds later. Philippe Cornet and Jordan Caron grabbed the helpers.

Cormier punched Garrett Clarke. Lewiston came to the defense of their rookie. Clarke also got a penalty. Patrick-Delisle-Houde and Danick Paquette also received a penalty. Dany Coulombe and Jordan Caron dropped the gloves while the referees figured things out. Caron would win the bout with the two point takedown but got the extra two minutes. Both guys would get fighting majors.

With 41 seconds left in the powerplay from Cormier’s penalty, Billy Lacasse went to the box. Gratchev sat down again with 2:39 left in the frame.

Lewiston had a chance when Etienne Brodeur blasted one on Gougeon. Lucas LaBelle had a chance when Maxim Gougeon was out of position. Michael Chaput fell and appeared to favor his upper body. LaBelle almost picked the corner but the shot was high. Marc Bourgeois got a five minute major and a game misconduct.

Philippe Cornet would make it 4-2 with 3:43 remaining on Bourgeois’ penalty. Cormier let a blast go and Cornet grabbed the rebound. Jordan Caron and Patrice Cormier got the assists. It was the only goal on the powerplay but Guillaume Pelletier made it 5-2 right after the penalty ended with Patrick Delisle-Houde and Luca Cunti getting the assists. The goal came with 7:41 remaining.

LaBelle was sent to the box with 5:43 remaining. After a whistle, Peter Delmas went after a Rimouski player. Alexander Beaton dropped the gloves and pummeled his man. He got five minutes major, a two minute minor and a game misconduct. Danick Paquette got involved and got two majors. Reul, Ward, and Delmas all got two minutes. Alexandre Neron got a game misconduct. Ilya Silik got two majors. Pierre-Luc Coulombe got a major penalty. Patrick-Delisle-Houde, William Plourde (2 minors) all got penalties for Rimouski. All penalties at the 14:42 mark.

Pelletier would go to box with 4:36 remaining. Garrett Clarke and Frédéric Desrochers dropped the gloves with seven seconds left. They were sent to the showers early.

Peter Delmas made 23 saves on 28 shots. Maxim Gougeon turned away 25 shots on 27 chances. Lewiston was 1 for 4 with the man advantage and the Oceanic hwas 4 for 12. The three stars were:
