Lewiston skates past Westbrook

Lewiston, ME– Both teams took a while to get their legs going but Lewiston found the back of the net early and often. The Blue Devils defeated the Westbrook Blazers 9-1 in the opening game of the Bishop Cup.

“We moved the puck pretty well down low and in the offensive zone. We still not quick in the transition and still not quick enough with the support man. All in all I am pleased with the effort,” said Lewiston Head Coach Jamie Belleau.

Robby Leeman broke the ice with 8:20 remaining in the first stanza for the Blue Devils the assists went to Ryan Lemelin and Devin McLellan. Zach Joy made save just before the puck cross the goal line to keep game at 1-0 with 5:46 remaining.

“It was well balanced in terms of scoring (between the upperclassman and lower classman),” said Belleau

“It was our first complete game (They played in a round robin tournament last weekend). I think the third period was a lot better. If we can stay out of the penalty box we will be okay. It does a lot for confidence (playing Lewiston). It shows our kids what it takes to play at the top,” said Westbrook’s Head Coach Travis Jalbert.
