Colonels blank Colby, 2-0

Waterville, ME — John Williams (Flourtown, Pa.) had a goal on a penalty shot and added an assist as Curry College took a 2-0 non-conference victory over Colby College on Tuesday night in men’s hockey at Alfond Rink.

Curry goalie Steven Jakiel (Santa Clarita, Calif.) made 15 saves for his second career shutout.

After a scoreless opening period, the Colonels (5-1) went ahead for good when Michael Guzzo (Pinckney, Mich.) tallied at 16:32 off assists from Jeffrey Hazelwood (Dublin, Calif.) and Williams.

With just 2:14 to play and Colby pressing for the tying goal, the Colonels were awarded a penalty shot after a Mule defensemen took a Curry player down from behind on a breakaway. Williams got his fifth goal of the season on the penalty shot to close out the win.

Cody McKinney (Weston, Fla.) kept his third straight opponent to two goals with 23 saves in net for Colby (2-1).
