Lewiston finishes the road trip

The Lewiston Maineiacs head back to Quebec to face the Shawinigan Cataractes and the Gatineau Olympiques. They face the number two team in the CHL on Friday night (7:30) and travel to Gatineau Saturday afternoon (4pm). The two games finish off a four game road trip which began last weekend with tilts between Drummondville and Rimouski.

2008-2009 Season: 9-15-0-0 (4th in the Telus Central)
Goals For: 69 (15th in the League)
Goals Against: 108 (Tied for 16th in the League)

Powerplay Percentage: 12.3%  (18th in the League)

The Lewiston Maineiacs get Danick Paquette back as he represented the QMJHL in the ADT Canada-Russia Challenge this week. He missed the Rimouski game to travel to Cape Breton. He has 11 goals and 6 assists in 19 contests. He also has 81 penalty minutes which leads the league. Max Gratchev has 6 goals and 11 assists in 21 games. He has turned it lately. Alexander Beaton and Marc Bourgeois each have 15 points. Alex has six goals and Marc has 8 goals.

Eric Gelinas leads the blue line crew with three goals and ten assists in 24 games. The NHL Central Scouting ranked Gelinas as the seventh best player from the QMJHL for the upcoming NHL Draft. Michael Ward has three goals and eight helpers. Patrick Cusack has seven assists.

Peter Delmas played in the Drummondville game last Friday. He has 4-12 record with a 4.77 goals against average and a .843 save percentage. Phillip Wright has been the primary back up with a 3-1 record, a 3.31 goals against average and a .873 save percentage. Jonathan Connelly appeared in his fourth game last Sunday. He sports a 2-2 record with a 4.02 goals against average and a .832 save percentage.

Shawinigan Cataractes

2008-2009 Season: 21-4-0-0 (1st in the Telus Central)
Goals For: 116 (1st in the League)
Goals Against: 61 (3rd in the League)
Powerplay Goals: 48 (1st in the League)
Powerplay Percentage: 36.4%  (1st in the League)
Penalty Kill Percentage: 81.0% (1st in the League)
Short Handed Goals Allowed: 26 (7th in the League)
Short Handed Goals For: 3 (Tied for 3rd in the League)

Lewiston faces another powerful offense as they faced Drummondville three times in two weeks. They have 108 goals. Now the focus turns to Shawinigan which has 116 goals. Cedric Lalonde-McNicoll leads the entire CHL with 46 points. He has 17 goals. Nicholas Petersen is second on the team with 11 goals and 26 assists. Matthew Pistilli leads the league with 20 goals and he has 34 points. Dave Labrecque is a set up man with 24 assists and six goals.

On the defensive end Charles-Olivier Roussel has six goals and 15 assists. He’s eligible for the 2009 NHL Draft. Simon Lacroix who’s property of the New York Islanders, also has six goals and 14 assists. Another draft eligible player is Gabriel Lemieux and he has four goals and nine assists.
Timo Pielmeier has been stellar with a 14-2 record with a 2.08 goals against average and a .937 save percentage. Gabriel Girard has seen a good portion of games. The 17-year-old has a 7-1 record with a 2.68 goals against average and a .911 save percentage.

Gatineau Olympiques

2008-2009 Season: 7-16-1-1 (3rd in the Telus West)
Goals For: 64 (17 in the League)
Goals Against: 95 (14th in the League)
Powerplay Goals: 30 (9th in the League)
Powerplay Percentage: 17.4%  (Tied for 10th in the League)
Penalty Kill Percentage: 75.4% (14th in the League)
Short Handed Goals Allowed: 39 (16th in the League)
Short Handed Goals For: 2 (Tied for 11th in the League)

This isn’t the same Olympiques squad that went to the Memorial Cup last year. They lost Claude Giroux who has moved onto the AHL. Matthew Pistilli was traded to Shawinigan. Paul Byron is returning and he has 9 goals and 14 assists in 23 games. Alexandre Quesnel also has 23 points but has two more assists. Jean-Philipp Chabot has 11 goals and 4 assists.

On the backend, Hugo Laporte has 24 points including 7 goals. Maxime Mallette has 2 goals and 10 assists in 25 games. Maxime Clermont who’s highly touted for the 2010 Draft has a 5-9-1 record with a 3.23 goal against average and a .872 save percentage. Marc-Antoine Gelinas has two wins and seven losses. He has a 4.25 goals against average and also has a .872 save percentage.
