Drummondville’s offense is still hot

Drummondville, QC- It was more of the same at the Marcel Dionne Centre. The Drummondville Voltigeurs defeated the Lewiston Maineiacs 8-3. It was the usual suspects for the Voltigeurs. Yannick Riendeau had 2 goals and 2 assists. Mike Hoffman also had two goals and added an assist. Dany Masse had a goal and two assists. Dmitry Kulikov had three assists.

It was back and forth hockey for the first five minutes of the game. Mike Hoffman had Drummondville’s best chance. Alex Beaton went off for tripping with 9:58 in the stanza. Yannick Riendeau had the Voltigeurs best chance on the man advantage.

The Maineiacs went on the powerplay when Marc-Antoine Desnoyers went off for interference with 4:56 left in the period. Lewiston couldn’t get anything going as they couldn’t get a shot off. Lewiston had several chances after the powerplay ended.

With 1:28 remaining, Danick Paquette went off for roughing. Drummondville couldn’t get the powerplay set up before the buzzer sounded.

The Maineiacs were able to kill off the rest of Danick Paquette’s penalty. Peter Delmas made a great save. Billy Lacasse hooked Dany Masse at 1:28 mark. Maxime Gratchev got Lewiston the lead when he had a shorthanded breakaway. The goal was reviewed but the goal stood 1:46 into the period. Michael Chaput and Erik Gelinas got the helpers. The Voltigeurs had a few shots on the powerplay.

Lewiston went on the man advantage when Jeff Marcoux went off at the 4:06 mark. Michael Ward got off a shot early on in the powerplay. That was the only chance Lewiston would get. Pierre-Olivier Morin made it 2-0 when he scored off an offensive draw 6:38 into the second.

The Drummondville Voltigeurs cut the lead in half 61 seconds later when Mike Hoffman got his 13th of the year. Peter Delmas didn’t see the puck that was shot from the blue line.

Drummondville got two quick goals. The first goal came from Mike Hoffman who slid it past Delmas. Yannick Riendeau and goaltender Antoine Tardif got the helpers. 18 seconds later Maxime Frenette grabbed his fourth of the season. Dmitry Kulikov got the lone helper. Ed Harding called a time out after the Voltigeurs made it 3-2.

Yannick Riendeau made it 4-2 at the 17:27 mark. Dany Masse set the goal up for his 18th assist of the season.

Garrett Clarke drilled Philippe Lefebvre into the boards. No penalties came from the hit but Gabriel Dumont went over to drop the gloves. Both men wrestled each other to the ground.. That came at the 2:31 mark.

Riendeau made it 5-2 when he let a wrister go 35 seconds after the bout. Kulikov and Masse added to their point total. Two minutes later, Masse got his 13th of the season with Dmitry Kulikov and Yannick Riendeau adding to their assists tallies. Philip Wright relieved Peter Delmas.

The Maineiacs cut into the lead with a powerplay tally from Danick Paquette with 10:23 remaining. Gratchev got his second point of the night and Michael Ward getting the secondary assist. Andrew Randazzo was in the box for the Voltigeurs.

Marc-Olivier Vachon got his ninth on the season on the man advantage at the 12:06 mark. Patrik Prokop and Gabriel Dumont got their first point of the night. Matt Bourdeau was in the box for Lewiston.

With 4:19 to go in the game, Mathieu Gingras got his fourth tally of the season. Prokop and Samson Mahbod donated to Gingras’ cause. Benoît Lévesque went to the sin bin with 2:29 to go. The Maineiacs couldn’t score to end the game.

Peter Delmas turned away 19 of 25 shots. Phillip Wright turned made 11 saves. Both teams were 1 for 4 with the man advantage. The three stars were:
