MAINEiacs back on the road

The Lewiston Maineiacs look to get back on track this weekend. They head to Drummondville and Shawinigan to face the two of the league’s best. On Friday, the Maineiacs face the Voltigeurs at 7:30pm. Then they travel to Shawinigan on Sunday for a late afternoon tilt against the Oceanic at 4pm.

Lewiston MAINEiacs

2008-2009 Season: 8-14-0-0 (4th in the Telus Central)
Goals For: 61 (Tied for 15th in the League)
Goals Against: 98 (16th in the League)
Powerplay Goals: 14 (18th in the League)
Powerplay Percentage: 11.5%  (18th in the League)
Penalty Kill Percentage: 74.3% (16th in the League)
Short Handed Goals Allowed: 43 (18th in the League)
Short Handed Goals For: 6 (Tied for 1st in the League)

The Maineiacs had a tough time scoring last weekend. Billy Lacasse had two goals in the loss. That brought his point total to 11 points and seven goals. As a 17-year-old rookie last season, he only had five goals and 12 points. Michael Chaput had a three assists in the 13-4 loss last Saturday. He has two goals and four assists in the 22 games this season. Head Coach Ed Harding doesn’t want to look at the statistics.

“He’s 16-years old; this is older men’s league, he’s done very well.  I don’t think you can look at the stats at this level (QMJHL).  The time we will be able to judge Chaput is after Christmas and as 17-year-old and as an 18-year-old,” said Harding.

Danick Paquette has 10 goals and 6 assists to lead the team. Alexander Beaton has five goals and nine assists.

On the defensive end, Eric Gelinas has three goals and eight assists to lead the blue line crew. Michael Ward has two goals and seven assists. Garrett Clarke has two goals and four assists this season. The biggest question this weekend is will Patrick Cusack be back in the line up. He has suffered a leg injury last week.

Peter Delmas has a 4-11 record with a 4.46 goals against average and a .852 save percentage. Phillip Wright saw his goals against average spike. It’s now at 3.48 and he has .862 save percentage. His record is 3-1. Jonathan Connelly has a 1-3 record with a 4.79 goals against average and a .808 save percentage.

Drummondville Voltiguers

2008-2009 Season: 14-4-0-2 (2nd in the Telus Central)
Goals For: 94 (2nd in the League)
Goals Against: 58 (3rd in the League)
Powerplay Goals: 43 (2nd in the League)
Powerplay Percentage: 31.2%  (2nd in the League)
Penalty Kill Percentage: 81.2% (6th in the League)
Short Handed Goals Allowed: 19 (4th in the League)
Short Handed Goals For: 6 (Tied for 1st in the League)

The Voltigeurs went off against the Maineiacs at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee. They scored 20 goals. Yannick Riendeau had five goals and two assists in the two contests. He has 13 tallies and 14 helpers. Samson Mahbod who also had a big weekend, has 14 goals and 15 assists on the season. Mike Hoffman has 12 goals and 15 assists.

On the defensive side of things, Marc-Antoine Desnoyers and Dmitry Kulikov lead the way. Desnoyers has 18 points including seven goals. Kulikov has 17 points and three points lit the lamp. In net, Antoine Tardif has a 8-2-2 record with a 2.58 goals against average and a .889 save percentage. Nathan Dunnett has a 6-2 record with a 2.98 goals against average and a .875 save percentage

Rimouski Oceanic

2008-2009 Season: 15-7-0-0 (2nd in the Telus Central)
Goals For: 79 (6th in the League)
Goals Against: 69 (Tied for 6th in the League)
Powerplay Goals: 29 (Tied for 6th in the League)
Powerplay Percentage: 22.8%  (5th in the League)
Penalty Kill Percentage: 79.7% (9th in the League)
Short Handed Goals Allowed: 27 (8th in the League)
Short Handed Goals For: 5 (Tied for 3rd in the League)

Keven Veilleux and Philippe Cornet each have 20 points. Veilleux has seven goals and Cornet has eight goals. Montreal draft pick Olivier Fortier, has four goals and 11 assists. Luca Cunti who’s a Tampa Bay pick has lit the lamp three times and assisted on 12 other goals. Felix Lefrancois has eight goals and seven assists.

The Oceanic get plenty of points from the backend. Alexandre Neron has two goals and 16 helpers. Former Maineiac, Sebastien Piche, has seven goals and six assists. Gleason Fournier has a goal and 11 helpers. Maxim Gougeon has a 12-5 record with a 2.67 goals against average and a .889 save percentage. Tommy Perreault is 2-1 with a 3.89 goals against average and a .850 save percentage.
