Junior A news

It was an off weekend for the Portland Junior Pirates organization. They did make the news this week. Defenseman Ryan Boucher (Lewiston, Me) was named the Atlantic Junior Hockey League’s Defenseman of the Week. Boston.com did a feature story on Pier-Olivier Michaud a former Junior Pirate who’s with the Harvard Crimson.

Big weekend for Brian Billett

The Brunswick native has improved his record to 3-1 with the New Hampshire Junior Monarchs of the Eastern Junior Hockey League. This weekend he led the Monarchs to a 4-1 win over the New England Falcons and a 3-2 victory over the New England Huskies on Sunday.

Since loosing his EJHL debut 6-5, he hasn’t let in more than two goals. If he keeps his save percentage at .928, he will be second in the league in that category when reaches the minimal appearances to be ranked in the goaltender leader category.

Friday, Brian Dumoulin and Maine recruit Adam Shemansky had an assist in the victory. Both players tallied an assist on the Monarchs second goal on Sunday.

A strong weekend for Maine recruits playing in the USHL

Lewiston native Mark Anthoine had a three assist weekend. He had two assists against the Lincoln Stars in the 5-3 victory on Friday. On Sunday, he added an assist in the 6-4 victory over Sioux Falls.

Johnnie Searfoss had a powerplay goal and added an assist for the Fargo Force victory over the Cedar Rapids Rough Riders on Sunday.

Derek Arnold had a two goal weekend. He added a tally in Friday’s 6-4 victory over Des Moines Buccaneers and got Waterloo’s only tally in the 3-1 loss to the Omaha Lancers.

Stuart Higgins shines on the International stage

The 2010 recruit, had two assists in three games at the 4 Nations tournament in Monthey, Switzerland. The United States National Team Development Program finish second in the tournament. Their only loss was against Russia. Higgins also tallied an assist against Switzerland in a pre-tournament tune up game.

Recruits playing up North

Joey Diamond had a ten point week for the Hamilton Red Wings of the Ontario Provincial Junior Hockey League (OPJHL). Last Thursday, he had an assist in the victory over Patrick McEachen’s Stoufville Spirit. On Saturday, he had a goal and three assists over Carlos Amestoy’s Toronto Jr. Canadiens. Both McEachen and Amestoy didn’t play against Diamond. Last night he has three goals and added three helpers in the game between Newmarket Hurricanes.

Diamond’s 27 goals and 26 assists lead the OPJHL in scoring.

McEachen had an assist against Cobourg last night. Carlos Amestoy had an assist in the 6-5 loss to the St. Michaels Buzzers.

Darcy Ashley a 2011 recruit has 4 goals and 7 assists in 10 games so far this season for the Cornwall Thunder of the New Brunswick-Prince Edward Island Major Midget League.
