A big veterans weekend for the MAINEiacs

The Lewiston Maineiacs return home for three games in four nights.  On Thursday night, the Chicoutimi Sagueneens come to town for the first time this season.  It will be the second time this season the two teams have met.  The Sagueneens defeated the Maineiacs 6-1 on September 13th.  The Drummondville Voltigeurs roll into town on Saturday night and a matinee on Sunday.  The two teams have split the two games so far this season.

Chicoutimi Sagueneens

2008-2009 Season: 7-10-1-1 (3rd in the Telus East)
Goals For: 59 (Tied for 11th in the League)
Goals Against: 62 (10th in the League)
Powerplay Goals: 24 (Tied for 7th in the League)
Powerplay Percentage: 18.9%  (10th in the League)
Penalty Kill Percentage: 84.3% (3rd in the League)
Short Handed Goals Allowed:
17 (4th in the League)
Short Handed Goals For: 4 (Tied for 2nd in the League)

Olivier Ouellet leads the team with 10 goals and he has a total of 18 points.  Jacob Lagace, Buffalo’s 5th round selection in 2008, has seven goals and eights assists this season.  Mathieu Populus has a +5 that leads the team.  One disappointment for the Sagueneens is Nicolas Deschamps.  Last season he had 24 goals and 43 assists as a rookie.  This season he has 2 goals and 6 assists in 16 games.

The Sagueneens have two solid defensemen; Dominic Jalbert has five goals and 13 assists in 19 contests.  That’s tied for second for amongst defensemen.  Sebastien Rioux has three goals and nine assists.  Former Maineiac, Nicolas Therrien, has three goals and two assists.  Francois Levesque has a 4-6-2 record, with a 3.26 goals against average and a .894 save percentage.  Sean Coulton has a 3-4 record with a 3.04 goals against average and a .879 save percentage.

Drummondville Voltiguers

2008-2009 Season: 12-4-0-2 (2nd in the Telus Central)
Goals For: 74 (4th in the League)
Goals Against: 53 (3rd in the League)
Powerplay Goals: 36 (2nd in the League)
Powerplay Percentage: 30.5%  (2nd in the League)
Penalty Kill Percentage: 80.2% (9th in the League)
Short Handed Goals Allowed: 19 (6th in the League)
Short Handed Goals For: 5 (Tied for 1st in the League)

The offense has come from two veterans Samson Mahbod and Dany Masse.  They have combined for 50 points.  Mahbod has 13 goals for a total of 26 points.  Masse has 24 points and 11 goals.  Mike Hoffman has 9 goals and 12 assists.  Yannick Riendeau has 8 goals and 12 assists.  Philippe Lefebvre has a +9.  The second overall pick in the 2008 QMJHL Midget Draft, Sean Couturier has five assists in 18 games.

On the blue line, Marc-Antoine Desnoyers has six goals and nine assists in 18 games.  Dmitry Kulikov who’s eligible for the 2009 NHL Draft has two goals and nine assists in 15 games.  He’s in the top ten in scoring for defenseman.  The Voltigeurs have been using two goalies.  Antoine Tardif has a 6-2-2 record with a 2.60 goals against average and a .889 save percentage.  Nathan Dunnett has a 6-2 record with a 2.98 goals against average and a .875 save percentage.

2008-2009 Season: 7-12-0-0 (4th in the Telus Central)
Goals For: 52 (16th in the League)
Goals Against: 75 (14th in the League)
Powerplay Goals: 14 (18th in the League)
Powerplay Percentage: 12.8%  (18th in the League)
Penalty Kill Percentage: 75.4% (16th in the League)
Short Handed Goals Allowed: 34 (17th in the League)
Short Handed Goals For: 5 (Tied for 1st in the League)

Danick Paquette is starting to rack up the goals.  Last weekend he had five goals, he had a total of five goals heading into the weekend.  He also has four assists on the season.  Alexander Beaton had five goals and eight assists in 17 games.  Rookie Etienne Brodeur has two goals and nine assists.  Maxime Gratchev and Marc Bourgeois each have ten points.  Gratchev has three goals and Bourgeois has six goals.

Eric Gelinas has three goals and seven assists to lead the defenseman.  Michael Ward has two goals and six assists.  Patrick Cusack has six helpers.  Peter Delmas has four wins on the season.  He has nine losses.  His goals against average is 4.01 and his save percentage is .857.  Phillip Wright has a 2-1 record with a 2.01 goals against average and a .918 save percentage.  Jonathan Connelly hasn’t seen any action since Delmas’ return. He has a 1-3 record with a 4.79 goals against average and a .808 save percentage.

Thursday and Saturday night the games will be at 7pm.  Sunday’s contest will begin at 4pm.  All games can be heard on 870 and 1470am ESPN Radio.
