Sabres assign Weber to Portland

Portland, ME — The Pirates will have some depth back on the blueline tonight as earlier today the Sabres assigned defenseman Mike Weber back to the Pirates.

Weber’s assignment comes as a result of Henrik Tallinder’s return to the line up for Buffalo in last night’s 5-2 loss to Tampa Bay. Tallinder suffered a lacerated right ankle, missing only one game.

While with the Sabres, Weber, 20, played in two games without scoring a point and had a -2 plus/minus rating with nine penalty minutes. He averaged just over 15 minutes in ice time.

Weber, who just arrived in Norfolk, is expected to play for the Pirates tonight when they take on the Norfolk Admirals. In five games with the Pirates this season, he’s been scoreless with a plus-2 rating.
