Enroth perfect in Pirates win

Norfolk, VA – Jhonas Enroth made 29 saves as the Portland Pirates got back on the winning track with a solid team effort, defeating the Norfolk Admirals, 4-0, in front of 2,392 at the Scope on Friday night.

Portland did all their damage in the second period, scoring three goals in a span of 4:54 including two goals in 45 seconds.

At 10:16, Tim Kennedy scored his second of the season to extend his point-scoring streak to seven games. Assists were given to Mark Mancari and Mathieu Darche.

Felix Schutz scored his first goal of the season at 11:01 of the second period, giving the Pirates a quick 2-0 lead.

At 15:10, Pirates’ forward Nathan Gerbe added to the Admirals misery when he scored his team-leading seventh goal of the season when he sent a quick shot upstairs on Admirals’ goalie Karri Ramo.

The game took on a chippy tone in the third period with multiple fights as several players were escorted off the ice, including Pirates enforcer Jimmy Bonneau.

By then, the Pirates had a 4-0 lead on a goal by Aaron Slattengren, his first in a Pirates uniform, at 4:52 of the third period.

Slattengren, playing in his second game, signed with the Pirates earlier in the week as the Pirates found themselves shorthanded due to injury.

“He a third-year pro so we expect his transition period to come fairly quick,” said Pirates coach Kevin Dineen.

As Enroth earned his first AHL shutout, the Pirates had no player with multiple points as 11 players had notched a point in the game.

The Pirates will get back into action when they take on the Admirals for second game of the weekend series.
