A great start to the weekend for Lewiston

Victoriaville, QC– After forty minutes of play, it was a defensive game, but six goals were scored in the third. Four goals belonged to the visiting team. The Lewiston Maineiacs snapped their four game losing streak; with a 5-2 victory over the Victoriaville Tigres. Alexander Beaton had two goals and added an assist. Maxime Gratchev had a goal and an assist. Peter Delmas made 32 saves. Brandon Hynes and Antoine Laperriere were the goal scorers for the Tigres.

Danick Paquette went to the box just 2:40 into the contest. The Tigres couldn’t get anything going but had a scoring chance at the end of the powerplay. Paquette’s first drops the gloves with Ryan Jasinsky on his first shift after penalty. It ended up as a wrestling match. Paquette picked up a ten minute misconduct. Maxime Robichaud got a five minute major for cross checking and a game misconduct.

Maineiacs went on the 5 on 3 powerplay when Victoriaville was called for a delay of game. Lewiston had a great chance as they almost stuffed it in. Maxime Gratchev hit the cross bar after the 5 on 3 powerplay ended. The Tigres survived the five minute major penalty. Etienne Brodeur went to the box for high sticking at the 11:22 mark. Peter Delmas made a big save on the penalty kill when Lewiston was in a middle of a line change.

Garrett Clarke went from end to end and fired a wrist shot past Keven Poulin at the 14:26 mark. Sean Stagles got the lone helper on the play. Delmas made a key save with 1:15 left in the period. Maxime Tanguay had a chance for Victoriaville Tigres with ten seconds left.

Filip Janosik went to the sin bin just 24 seconds into the stanza. Joel Chouinard had a great chance for the home team. Maxime Gratchev brought the puck into the offensive zone but no chance was created. Peter Delmas made a save late in the powerplay chance. Poulin made a save on Eric Gelinas. The forwards tried to stuff it home.

Marc Bourgeois had a scoring chance when he beat the defense and put a backhander on Poulin. Etienne Brodeur had a chance as he put one on Poulin. Brodeur knocked Poulin’s stick into the corner. It created another chance for the Maineiacs but couldn’t light the lamp. Victoriaville had their own scoring chance after the Lewiston’s scoring chances.

Pierre-Olivier Morin couldn’t get past the Victoriaville defenseman in the Maineiacs offensive zone, soon after he took a penalty. The Tigres took a while to take a shot but got off a good chance. There was a scramble in front of Delmas net. Brodeur got into it with a Victoriaville player after the whistle but no penalties were called. Alex Beaton lead a 2 on 1 while short handed but the play was broken up. Danick Paquette had his own chance but the pass he tried to receive was a little long.

The Maineiacs almost got a goal by using the end boards to their advantage. Peter Delmas made two key saves as the defense collapsed. David Nolin had a great chance off the initial shot. Bourgeois had another scoring chance as he crashed the net. Poulin was able to cover up as Bourgeois crashed into the net. Poulin made another big save. Garrett Clarke let a shot go from the red line and he put it right on Poulin. It caught Poulin’s glove.

Danick Paquette went to the sin bin at the 6:30 mark Brandon Hynes let a long distance shot go and Peter Demas missed played it. It was Hynes 8th goal of the season with Tanguay and Andrej Nestrasil getting the helpers at the 7:14 mark. Right off the faceoff the Tigres hit the post. Alexander Beaton got the Maineiacs back out in front with a goal with 10:07 left. Morin got the lone assist.

Billy Lacasse went down in front of the penalty box. The Maineiacs kept the forecheck up. Maxime Gratchev tried to snipe one short side. Not too long after he got called for holding the stick at the 14:06 mark. The Tigres called a timeout to draw up a play one the powerplay. Peter Delmas made a big save on the penalty kill.

Alexander Beaton and Gratchev went on a 2 on 1, Gratchev shot it wide but Beaton put it home on the second chance with 3:23 remaining. Brodeur got the secondary assist. Michael Chaput went off for hooking with 2:11 to go. It was a 6 on 4 poweplay as Poulin went to the bench. The Tigres hit the post and the puck went to the neutral zone. Maxime Gratchev shot the puck into the open cage. Beaton and Brodeur grabbed assists. The goal came with 41 seconds left. Delmas let his guard down when Antoine Laperrière found the back of the net 21 seconds later. Ryan Jasinsky and Travis McIsaac got the powerplay helpers. With two second left Steeven Jacques found the back of the net to make it 5-2. Denis Reul and Michael Ward tallied assists on the goal.

Peter Delmas was solid as he made 32 saves on 34 shots. Keven Poulin turned away 29 shots. Lewiston was 0 for 2 on the man advantage which included the five minute major. Victoriaville was 2 for 7 on the powerplay. The three stars were:
