Junior A News

The Portland Junior Pirates MJHL team was the only team in action this past weekend. They lost both games this weekend to the Hartford Jr. Wolfpack. On Friday night, the Wolfpack defeated the Pirates 6-2. Pirates’ goal scorers were Brian Donovan and Elias Wissman. Cameron Cain assisted on Donovan’s goal and Paddy Murphy added an assist on Elias Wissman’s goal. Saturday, the Wolfpack escaped with the 4-3 victory. Evan Schultz and Elias Wissman had two goals. Schultz, Cameron Cain, and Sean Oddy each had an assist. Justin Clouatre had two assists.

Just like the Junior A Pirates, the New Hampshire Junior Monarchs Junior A team had the weekend off. Brian Billet, a Brunswick native, stopped 28 of 31 shots for the Monarch Junior B squad in a 3-3 tie against the Green Mountain Glades on Saturday. Billet wasn’t selected in the USHL Future’s Draft that was held last week.

Big Weekend Ahead

For the Portland Junior Pirates MJHL squad, the New Hampshire Junior Monarchs (EJHL), and Bridgeton Academy will all be heading to the Beantown Classic that will be at the University of New Hampshire and in Exeter, New Hampshire. The tournament starts on Thursday and end on Sunday. The tournament will feature the best Midget Programs from around the country and the Dartmouth Subways from Nova Scotia. Sidney Crosby played for the Subways back in 2001-2002. This tournament will be seen by College, Junior A, QMJHL, and NHL scouts.

2010 Recruit is On a Roll

Stuart Higgins who plays for the National Team Development Program’s Under-17 team had a big weekend. He had an assist last Friday 4-0 victory over the Marquette Rangers. Saturday night he added a goal in the 3-2 win over the Rangers in a shootout.

Patrick McEachen a 2009 recruit for the Black Bears has two goals and ten assists in 17 contests for the Stouffville Spirit. Carlos Amestoy has been hot for the Toronto Jr. Canadiens. Against the Cobourg Cougars on October 12th, he had two goals and added two assists. He added an assist this past weekend also. On the year he has eight points including four goals. Joey Diamond’s 30 points is tied with two other skaters on the Hamilton Red Wings.

2007 Maineiacs’ Draft Pick Will Be Playing for Team Canada

Stephen Horyl, the Maineiacs’ 7th round selection in 2007, will be on Team Canada East for the upcoming World Junior A Challenge that will be held in Camrose, Alberta from November 2nd to November 8th. No Maine recruits were named.
