The Huskies just had enough in the tank

Lewiston, ME- The Maineiacs got out of their goal scoring slump as they put five on the board against the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies. The only problem was the Huskies put seven goals on the scoreboard. Maxime Macenauer, Anaheim’s 3rd rounder in 2007, led the way with a hat trick. Jean-Sébastien Bérubé added two goals of his own for the Huskies. Steeven Jacques had two goals and an assist. Marc Bourgeois also tallied two for the Maineiacs.

The Huskies wasted no time no time to get out in front. 55 seconds into the contest, Maxime Macenauer let a snap shot go that found the top shelf. Alex Émond got the lone assist. Rouyn-Noranda kept the pressure on. Lewiston answered back at the 5:18 mark when Steeven Jacques found the back of the cage. Danick Paquette and Pierre-Olivier Morin helped them to an assist.

Lewiston went to the powerplay when Dominik Bohac went to the box. They moved the puck on the powerplay and shooting lanes nut couldn’t find the back of the net. Peter Delmas made a nice save to stop the Huskies shorthanded chance. Matt Bourdeau visited the box for two minutes but the penalty kill did its job, Jarrad Struthers went to the box with 8:04 remaining. The Maineiacs went 0 for 2 on the night on the powerplay.

Steeven Jacques went coast to coast to give his team the 2-1 lead with 4:31 remaining. Paquette tallied his second assist and Eric Gelinas got the secondary assist. A scrum broke behind Peter Delmas’ net and every player found someone’s jersey to tug. All the penalties were matching. Lucas LaBelle and Eric Gelinas went to the box for Lewiston. Marc-Andre Bourdon and Nicolas Deslauriers found themselves sitting across the scoring table.

It was back and forth hockey for the first five minutes. Delmas made a nice pad save. Lewiston went back on the man advantage when Jean-Sébastien Bérubé got an elbowing call. Danick Paquette shot one wide of the net. Michael Chaput had another chance to make it 3-1. Sean Stagles went off for hooking at the 8:29 mark. One minute into the powerplay for Rouyn-Noranda, Maxime Macenauer got his second of the contest. Assists went to Pier-Luc Giguere and Jeff Desjardins.

After a great scoring chance for Lewiston when the puck ended on top of the Huskies net; Eric Gelinas got the lead back for the hometown team. The goal came with 8:21 remaining. Steeven Jacques got his third point of the night. Danick Paquette went to the penalty box for cross checking with 5:24 mark. The Maineiacs killed off the penalty.

Just under the 2:20 mark, Jean-Sébastien Bérubé tied the match. The lone assist went to Michael Beaudry. With seconds remaining in the stanza, Danick Paquette went back to the penalty box.

The penalty kill did its job to start the period. Rouyn-Noranda did have a good opportunity on the powerplay when Peter Delmas committed early and went down. The Huskies couldn’t lift the puck up. Delmas made another save with 13:13 remaining. Teams started to trade chances.

The Huskies took the lead back just after the media timeout with 9:26 left in the contest. Sergey Ostapchuk let a wrist shot go in the deep slot. The Maineiacs came back 1:53 later when Marc Bourgeois found the back of the net. Denis Reul and Michael Ward tallied an assist on the goal.

The Huskies came right back with 4:56 remaining when Pier-Luc Champagne made a nice deke and lifted a backhander past Delmas. Jarrad Struthers picked up an assist. There hasn’t been this much trading since the .com boom in the late 90’s. Marc Bourgeois got the game tied up at five. Billy Lacasse and Etienne Brodeur grabbed the helpers.

With 58 seconds remaining, Jean-Sébastien Bérubé got the eventual game winner. Dominik Bohac got his first assist on the season. Maxime Macenauer completed the hat trick with 30 seconds left with an empty net goal. Marc-Andre Bourdon got his first assist of the night. Sergey Ostapchuk got his second point of the night.

Peter Delmas made 17 saves on 23 shots. Antoine Lafluer turned away 27 shots on 32 chances. Lewiston was 0 for 3 with the man advantage. The Rouyn-Noranda Huskies were 1 for 3 on the powerplay. The three stars were:
