Lewiston Plays Host Twice This Weekend

It will be an intriguing weekend at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee. First up is the Halifax Mooseheads. The organization stirred the pot last weekend when their radio play-by-play man, John Moore, went on the air last Friday and said the Maineiacs were for sale according to his sources. It didn’t take long for Maineiacs owner, Mark Just to deny the rumor. Saturday night the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies roll into town. Both games will be at 7pm and 870 and 1470am ESPN Radio will have the call. Telus has the game on webcast.

Halifax Mooseheads
2008-2009 Season:
3-9-0-0 (6th in the Atlantic Division)
Goals For: 31 (Tied 17th in the League)
Goals Against: 50 (Tied for 16th in the League)
Powerplay Goals: 15 (Tied for 8th in the League)
Powerplay Percentage: 17.6%  (11th in the League)
Penalty Kill Percentage: 77.8% (13th in the League)
Powerplay Goals Allowed: 18 (Tied for 13th in the League)
Short Handed Goals For: 0 (Tied for last in the League)

Since the last time the Maineiacs, the Mooseheads have scored 11 goals. Four of those goals came on the powerplay. Charles Bety and Linden Bahm each has six point to lead the forward crop. Each has three goals. Alexis Piette has two goals and three assists. Logan MacMillan, Anaheim’s 1st round selection, has two goals and two assists in the five contests he’s been in.

The points have come from the back end for the Halifax Mooseheads. Justin Pender leads the way with nine points and has three goals. Ben MacAskill is in the group with six points. He has one goal. In the cage, Mark Yetman has been the number one guy. He’s 2-8 with a 3.78 goals against average and a .856 save percentage. Mathieu Corbeil-Theriault is 1-1 with a 5.67 goals against average and a .841 save percentage.

Rouyn-Noranda Huskies
2008-2009 Season: 5-5-2-0 (2nd in the Telus West)
Goals For: 37 (Tied 12th in the League)
Goals Against: 39 (Tied for 8th in the League)
Powerplay Goals: 21 (3rd in the League)
Powerplay Percentage: 30.4%  (2nd in the League)
Penalty Kill Percentage: 78.3% (12th in the League)
Powerplay Goals Allowed: 15 (Tied for 9th in the League)
Short Handed Goals For: 1 (Tied for 10th in the league)

The Huskies come in after making a deep run into the playoffs last year. They have reloaded and their Import Pick, Sergei Ostapchuk leads the way with five goals and nine assists. Gabriel Levesque also has the same numbers. Jarrad Struthers has four goals and five assists. Ostapchuk has a +5 to lead the team.

Just like the Halifax Mooseheads, the Huskies have gotten offensive numbers from the blue line. Benoit Gervais, one of their twenty-year-olds, has five goals and seven assists so for this season. Marc-Andre Bourdon, a Philadelphia Flyers selection, has three goals for a total of nine points.

Mathew Dopud has seen most of the action in net so far this season. He’s 2-3-2 with a 2.94 goals-against-average and a .906 save percentage. Luke Gallant is 2-1 with a 2.71 goals-against-average and a .889 save percentage. They recently acquired Antoine Lafleur from the Prince Edward Island Rocket. In the two games with the Huskies, he’s 1-1 with a 5.74GAA and a .827SV%.

After the game Wednesday, Head Coach Ed Harding stressed team work. “We aren’t a good team. We have a great collection of hockey players,” said Harding. The powerplay was struggled after going 0 for 6 after the game against Rimouski. Harding wasn’t impressed with the powerplay. “Things are going to change now. We are going to have different personal, we going to try different people in different situations.”

Billy Lacasse, Etienne Brodeur, and Alexander Beaton didn’t record a point on Wednesday night. Each has eight points. Steeven Jacques recorded his second straight game with a point. He recorded his first career assist.

Garrett Clarke had another strong game Wednesday night. He got the Maineiacs only goal. “He played well; he has made more of a commitment. He still has to play a little more of sense of urgency. He’s only 15 years-old and he will learn that, said Harding.” Clarke has two goals and two assists

Peter Delmas is 2-5 with a 3.84 goals against average and a .867 save percentage. Phillip Wright has been great with a 2-0 record. He has a 2.00 goals against average and a .923 save percentage. Jonathan Connelly hasn’t seen any action since Delmas’ return. He has a 1-3 record with a 4.79 goals against average and a .808 save percentage.
