Jr. Pirates in Another Showcase

The long weekend has provided the Portland Junior Pirates organization to participate in another showcase tournament. The Junior A team traveled to Hudson, New Hampshire where the Northern Cyclones hosted the Columbus Day Weekend showcase. The Pirates defeated the Philadelphia Junior Flyers on Friday 1-0. Ryan Boucher got the goal with Kyle Weiland and Paul Kashmanian getting the assists. On Sunday, the Flyers came back with the 4-1 victory. Matt Crowley got an unassisted tally for the Pirates. They had a game Saturday against the Binghamton Jr. Senators but the result hasn’t been reported.

Ryan Boucher’s dad, Don Boucher, he has taken the Girl’s Head Coaching job at St. Doms. The position opened up last week. He also has a daughter, Kasey Boucher, she is a freshman on the Boston University hockey team.

The Portland Jr. Pirates B team participated in the Columbus Day Weekend showcase also in Hudson, New Hampshire. On Friday, they lost to the North Jersey Avalanche 2-1. Elias Wissman got the goal with Shawn Hird and Evan Schultz getting the assists. They had a game against the Junior Titans and the New Jersey Rockets. The results haven’t been reported.

Monarchs Get Back on Track

The New Hampshire Junior Monarchs went 1-1 over the weekend. On Friday, they lost to the Boston Jr. Shamrocks 5-2. Pontus Hansson made 11 saves in the loss. He was pulled halfway through the game. Saturday they defeated the Valley Forge Minutemen 8-2. Brian Dumoulin had a goal and two assists. Kelen Corkum had an assist in the victory.

The USHL Gets Ready for the Future’s Draft

The Maine recruits that are in the USHL didn’t record a point this weekend. Tuesday the USHL will be holding their Future’s Draft at 5pm. This draft is for 1991 and 1992 players only and aren’t eligible to play in the USHL this season. You can very well see Brian Dumoulin or Brian Billet get selected. I doubt Dumoulin get selected because he’s heading to Boston College next season. BC could decide to let him wait a season and come in 2010. If that does happen, I could see Dumoulin being selected in the USHL’s Entry Draft in May.

Speaking of Billet, he had two shutouts this weekend for the New Hampshire Junior Monarchs team that participates in the Empire Junior Hockey League. On Saturday, he stopped all 15 shots against the Buffalo Stars in the 3-0 victory. Today, he only had to face eight shots in the 13-0 victory over the Elmira Junior Jackals. He’s 3-0-1 with a 1.67 goals against average and a .948 save percentage.
