Weber assigned to Portland
- Updated: October 8, 2008
Portland, ME – The Buffalo Sabres have assigned defenseman Mike Weber to the Portland Pirates and it couldn’t have come at a better time.
Pirates’ head coach Kevin Dineen has been pounding the phones looking for a defenseman, as the blueline is shaky at best with the loss of Mike Funk, who is still in Buffalo.
Weber, 20, played 16 games as a rookie for the Sabres last season, scoring three assists and was a +12.
The 6-2, 199-pound native from Pittsburgh, PA, drafted in the second round (#57 overall of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, played 59 games last season, scoring 14 points (1g, 13a) with the Rochester Americans.
