UPDATE: Pirates bus catches on fire

If it’s not one thing, it’s another for the Portland Pirates.

On their trip down to Providence, RI for tonight’s game against the Bruins, the team bus blew a tire, which resulted in a fire.

Nobody was injured and the team has arrived in Providence after a second bus arrived, but the game tonight is in doubt because the Pirates gear was severely damaged because of water and heavy smoke.

This is not the first time the Pirates has had issues with their team bus. In 2005-06, the team bus broke down along the side of I-95 late at night and the team was forced to carry their gear almost a mile to a local hotel.

The Pirates will take to the ice and the game will proceed as scheduled, although it will an 8:05pm EDT start, roughly an hour later then the scheduled starting time.

Again, nobody was injured, but certainly a scary moment for the players and staff. It’s also important to give credit and acknowledgment to the Providence Bruins because they really stepped up to help the Pirates. They sent their team bus to pick up the Pirates as well as providing the team with clean laundry and mouth guards.
