Plank Notes: Carter Back, Callahan Out and More

Despite the Pirates losing a tough game at home to the Wolf Pack on Sunday, they had a strong run, grabbing five out of the possible eight points over the the last week.

(I’ll have more on that later)

The Ducks were busy yesterday as they completed a trade for former Pirate Brian Sutherby from the Washington Capitals for a second-round pick in 2009. As a result, look for the Ducks to announce that Ryan Carter has been reassigned to the Portland Pirates.

Joe Callahan will be out at least one month with a right foot fracture.

Geoff Platt currently made an impression on the coaching staff, collecting three goals and three assists for six points in his first three games in a Pirates uniform.

Former Pirate Ryan Getzlaf has signed a multi-year extension with the Anaheim Ducks. The deal is for five-years and worth an estimated 26.5 million over the life of the deal. It was speculated that Getzlaf could be on the move if Brian Burke and his agent Gerry Johannson couldn’t get a deal done. Anaheim and Toronto had been having discussions and it was believed they had a strong interest in Getzlaf.
