Pirates introduce new media partner

PORTLAND, ME- The Portland Pirates and the Portland Radio Group announced today that they have agreed to a multi-year marketing relationship that centers on WBAE-AM 1490 and WVAE-AM 1400 The Bay becoming the flagship radio stations that will broadcast all 80 Portland Pirates regular season hockey games and AHL Playoffs. The station also broadcasts all Portland Sea Dogs games and as a result, has become the official home for Portland’s two professional sports teams.

“We have had a wonderful relationship with WJAB for the past six years and we are grateful for their support and the role that the station, its on air talent and its ownership and management have played in helping us grow our business over the past few years. The opportunity to enter into a new, promotionally based partnership with the Portland Radio Group and its family of stations came at the right time for us moving forward, particularly since we could align our brand and flagship activities with our friends the Portland Sea Dogs. Now the two local professional sports teams share a home and can leverage that unique platform in ways we could not being with separate stations. We see great days ahead with this change and new relationship and we feel our fans and advertisers will feel the same,” said Pirates Managing Owner/CEO Brian Petrovek.

“The Portland Pirates are a great organization and we are proud to serve as the flagship station for Portland Pirates hockey,” said Portland Radio Group President/General Manager Cary Pahigian. “Together with our long term Sea Dogs association, we are pleased to be associated with two first class teams.”

The 2007-08 season will mark the fourth season that Greg Glynn will serve as the play-by-play voice of the Pirates and Brian Demoree will begin his sixth year as the studio host and producer of Pirates Hockey broadcasts.

The marketing relationship between the Pirates and the Portland Radio group will include many exciting and interactive promotions including: on WPOR 101.9, each Thursday during hockey season, the WPOR Morning Crew will play, “Are You Smarter than a Hockey Player?” A contestant will call in to play, and answer trivia questions, then compare their answers to those of a Portland Pirates Player. On Coast 93.1, each month, the Coast Morning Show will play “Win a Date with a Pirate” by inviting a Portland Pirates player on air to find the best candidate to invite to the Pirates biggest community event, The Evening with the Pirates” on March 4th, 2008 at the Holiday Inn by the Bay.

As part of the partnership, 970 WZAN and The Bay will air a 30 second Portland Pirates Daily Report from Greg Glynn each weekday.
