Ducks make it official; Penner heading to Edmonton

The Anaheim Ducks have announced that they have not matched the offer sheet tendered last week by the Edmonton Oilers for winger Dustin Penner. As a result, Penner becomes property of the Oilers.

The Ducks had until 11:05 a.m. Pacific today to match the offer of $21.25 million over five years made seven days ago by the Oilers.

The Ducks will receive the Oilers’ first-, second- and third-round picks in the NHL Entry Draft as compensation.

The 24-year-old Penner was second on the Ducks with 29 goals in 2006-07, adding 16 assists for 45 points in 82 games. He had three goals and five assists in 21 playoff games during the Ducks’ run to the Stanley Cup title.

Reaction from Ducks Executive Vice President/General Manager Brian Burke will be available after 3 p.m. Pacific time.
